How to Reset the Valve on Your CO2 Cylinder (The fix when no gas is coming out)

Posted on June 19, 2026

Overview

Works for Aquastream, Billi, Zip and most standard disposable cylinders.

If you've just connected a new CO2 cylinder and nothing's coming out, the good news is there's usually a quick fix, and the cylinder is almost always full.

What's happening is the valve on top sometimes gets a little stuck if it hasn't been pressed for some time, so no gas releases when you attach the regulator. A few firm presses on the valve will free it.

Steps

  1. Put the white rubber cap back on top of the valve. Keep it on the whole time.
  2. Grab something blunt. A closed pair of scissors works well.
  3. Press straight down on the valve through the cap. Sometimes it takes quite a few presses before the gas releases.
  4. You'll hear a short hiss of gas releasing.
  5. Attach your regulator as normal, and you'll have sparkling water in no time.
